Mary Fowler made her Manchester City debut as they missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification with a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the playoffs on Sunday.
Fowler debuted in Friday’s 6-0 win over Kazak club Tomiris Turan, getting another start and 90 minutes against Real in Madrid on Sunday.
But it wasn’t a happy outing for the Matildas youngster who played in midfield as they were beaten by Caroline Weir’s 15th minute goal.
Hayley Raso came on as a 50th minute substitute and was lively, setting up Laura Coombs to fire just over the bar, before she hooked a volley just off target.
Alanna Kennedy was an unused substitute across both games. City now enter the group stages of the Continental Cup.
The result sees Las Blancos move into the next qualifying round in the league path that includes Caitlin Foord‘s Arsenal.
Tameka Yallop‘s Norwegian outfit Brann will be in that round too, albeit in the champions path, with the Matilda scoring in their 3-1 win over Serbia’s Spartak Subotica.
Yallop, who started and played 56 minutes, netted Brann’s second goal in the 25th minute as they secured their passage into the next round. She ghosted in at the back post to side foot on her left for the goal.
Angela Beard and Indiah-Paige Riley were both in action as Fortuna Hjorring lost 3-2 in extra-time to Kristianstad in their third-place match. Beard put in a full shift and Riley started and played 91 minutes.
Joe Montemurro‘s Juventus won 3-1 over Maccabi Kiryat Gat in the champions path.
In the Swedish Damallsvenskan on Sunday, Elise Kellond-Knight backed up after returning last week with 60 minutes in Hammarby’s 3-0 win over Djurgarden.
Courtney Nevin and Kyra Cooney-Cross both played full games for Hammarby.
Remy Siemsen put in a full shift for AIK in a 0-0 draw with Umea who had Emma Checker play a full game too, while Teagan Micah was an unused sub as Rosengard lost 2-1 at Pitea.
Aivi Luik scored an early goal, playing a full game, as Hacken won 6-0 over Orebro.
