Sam Kerr grabbed a goal and an assist in Gotham FC’s 3-1 victory over Chicago Stars in USA’s NWSL over the weekend.
Kerr laid off the pass for Jaedyn Shaw’s opener, cutting the ball back across goal through several players’ legs for her teammate to sweep home.
The Matildas star made it 2-0 in the 50th minute, heading home Guro Reiten’s left-flank cross with a simple close-range finish. Kerr also had a goal disallowed minutes later for offside.
The goal was Kerr’s first goal in her past six games. She was replaced after 81 minutes.
Elsewhere in the NWSL, Mackenzie Arnold played a full game in Portland Thorns’ 1-1 draw with Houston Dash.
Mary Fowler put in a full shift but was kept relatively quiet as Manchester City edged newly-promoted Charlton 1-0.
Fowler played in a false nine role and rotated around the attack, with her best chance being a 19th minute snap shot that was saved.
Ellie Carpenter played the full game in Chelsea’s 1-0 triumph over Arsenal, for whom Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross put in full shifts. Caitlin Foord was a 61st minute sub for the Gunners.
Carpenter put in a strong display, earning praise from manager Sonia Bompastor.
“Ellie’s performing really well,” Bompastor told Stan Sport. “Ellie is performing at a really high level, game after game.
“I think the performances, but also the impact she brings for the team. She’s a really important player for us… I’m pleased with the performance she has.”
