Sam Kerr took her season tally to 16 goals with a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday, while Caitlin Foord and Emily Gielnik also netted.
The Matildas skipper opened the scoring with a right-foot volley from Niamh Charles’ 32nd minute cross, doubling the Blues’ advantage in the 52nd minute with a side-foot finish from close range from Fran Kirby’s throughball.
Liverpool rallied back but Kerr restored their two-goal buffer with a 79th minute strike from Charles’ pass to settle the contest.
Kerr, who has her 16 goals from 20 appearances in all competitions, said: “There’s plenty that needs improvement. I wish I could do this every week, but that’s a striker’s life, right — sometimes they go in, sometimes they don’t.
“But, when my teammates are putting in balls like they did today, it’s pretty easy for me to score.”
Alanna Kennedy put in a full shift while Mary Fowler was a 68th minute substitute as Manchester City eased past Sheffield United 7-0. Hayley Raso was an unused substitute.
Emily Gielnik played an hour and scored one goal with an assist as Aston Villa routed AFC Fylde 11-0 in the English Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.
