Mary Fowler played a full game but couldn’t inspire Manchester City to victory as Chelsea won the English Women’s League Cup final 2-1 on Saturday.
The Blues, who were without Sam Kerr who is closing in on a return from her ACL injury, triumphed after an 77th minute own goal from Yui Hasegawa.
Kerr was this week included in Chlsea’s 25-player squad for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, in a sign she’s not far off.
Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor said it remains “difficult to predict” when Kerr will be available for selection.
In the English Women’s Super League, Steph Catley played a full game at centre-back yet came close to scoring twice in Arsenal’s 3-1 win at Everton.
Catley’s second-half flicked header rattled off the crossbar, before her angled shot hit the woodwork too.
Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord both came on as subs just after the hour mark. Clare Wheeler was a 62nd minute sub for Everton.
Elsewhere, Teagan Micah was benched for Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester United.
Hayley Raso was a 71st minute sub for Tottenham as they lost 1-0 to Brighton. Clare Hunt and Charlie Rule were unused subs for the respective sides.
In USA’s NWSL, Alanna Kennedy made her debut for Angel City in the opening weekend of the season, putting in a full shift in a 1-0 victory over San Diego Wave.

Mackenzie Arnold regained her first-choice spot and played a full game for Portland Timbers as they opened their season with a 3-1 loss at Kansas City Current.
Kaitlyn Torpey made her Portland debut after her move from San Diego, putting in a full shift at right-back.
