Sam Kerr struck the post before netting her ninth goal of the season as Chelsea routed Leicester City 8-0 in the English Women’s Super League on Saturday.
The Matildas was left frustrated in the first half after she clipped narrowly wide from Fran Kirby’s pass, before hitting the post in a counter-attack.
But Kerr got her fifth WSL goal of the season in the 45th minute, getting on the end of an inch-perfect Guro Reiten pass.
Khadifa Shaw and Rachel Daly lead the WSL for goals this season with eight each, but Kerr and Kirby are next best with five, along with Liverpool’s Katherine Stengle.
Caitlin Foord got the crucial assist as Arsenal defeated Clare Wheeler‘s Everton 1-0 on Saturday, to stay three points behind leaders Chelsea.
Foord, along with Steph Catley, both played full games, with the former laying off the pass for Vivianne Miedema’s 24th minute winner.
Foord brought down a cross into the box, and laid back for Miedema who did the rest after a few touches with an emphatic finish.
The Matildas forward also had a good second-half opportunity to finish the game when she got in behind the defence but her shot was saved by Everton keeper Emily Ramsey.
Wheeler was absent for the Toffees.
Emily Gielnik was a 58th minute substitute as Aston Villa lost 5-0 at Manchester United on Saturday.
Hayley Raso was a 61st minute substitute while Alanna Kennedy remained unused on the bench as Manchester City won 3-1 over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. Mary Fowler was absent.
Mackenzie Arnold put in a full shift as West Ham United lost 2-0 at Liverpool on Sunday.
Lydia Williams wasn’t in the PSG squad for Sunday’s 1-0 win at Paris FC in the French Feminine Division 1.
