Matildas full-back Ellie Carpenter has this week signed a bumper four-year deal to join Sam Kerr’s Chelsea in England’s Women’s Super League.
Carpenter, 25, will link up with ex-Olmypique Lyon mentor Sonia Bompastor at Stamford Bridge.
The move ends Carpenter’s five-year stay with Lyon where she won a host of titles, including the French league title four times and the UEFA Champions League crown twice.
Carpenter was thrilled about the switch to join the cohort of Aussies in the WSL, with the reigning champions.
“I’m really excited about this new challenge; it’s a new adventure,” she said. “It feels like the right move for me, and I can’t wait to get started and give my all for this club.
“I’m very proud to join such a big club, one of the biggest in women’s football. Chelsea have enjoyed so much success in England, and I’m delighted to now be a part of it.”

Carpenter will contend with England international Lucy Bronze on the right side of defence.
Chelsea head of women’s football Paul Green said: “Ellie is a player who we have tracked for many years. She has a lot of experience for someone of her age and has won numerous titles in her career, including the Champions League.
“She is an athletic full back who loves to get forward. We are excited to see how she continues to develop and what she will add to an already talented squad of players.”

In other transfer news, Matildas forward Emily Gielnik has left Melbourne Victory to sign for Mexican Liga MX club CF Monterrey.
Matildas one-cap centre-back Matilda McNamara along with Adelaide United teammate Ella Tonkin are on trial with Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven.
The duo took part in a behind-closed-doors trial game against German club SGS Essen on Saturday.
