Nestory Irankunda made his Sporting Lisbon debut, coming on for the final 25 minutes in their 3-1 win over Alverca in Portugal’s Primeira Liga.

Irankunda was a 68th minute substitute with Sporting 3-0 up, almost providing the assist for a chance in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The Socceroo burst in behind the Alverca defence, racing into the box before jinking back and laying off centrally for an unmarked Issa Doumbia who shot wide.

Moments later Irankunda threaded a pass into the box for Luis Guilherme whose angled shot was turned behind by the Alverca keeper.

Alessandro Circati’s new club Benfica weren’t in league action over the weekend, having beaten Danish club AGF in the Europa League qualifiers on Thursday.

Patrick Beach kept a clean sheet on his debut for Troyes in their 0-0 draw with Paris FC in the opening weekend of the French Ligue 1 season.

Lucas Herrington made his Hull City in a memorable 2-0 win over Manchester United to open the English Premier League season on Saturday.

Herrington was a 64th minute substitute and was rated 7/10 by Hull Live, who wrote: “On for his debut against United, and looked calm and composed alongside John Egan in the heart of the defence, and did superbly well. Was not at all daunted by what he was facing.”

In England’s Championship, Riley McGree played the final 30 minutes as a substitute in Middlesbrough’s 2-1 loss at Blackburn Rovers.

McGree, who set up Boro’s late winner last game, was rated 5/10 by Teesside Live who wrote: “Tried to drive the ball forward but ran into a blue and white wall.”

Alex Robertson put in a full shift and earned a 7/10 rating from Wales Online in Cardiff City’s 2-2 draw at Derby County.

Wales Online wrote: “Had a big responsibility screening a makeshift defence and handled it impressively, while his set-piece delivery created Cardiff’s opener and he showed plenty of composure in possession.”

Mohamed Toure played the full 90 but had a quiet game of few chances, rated 5/10 by Pink Un in Norwich City’s 3-0 loss at Millwall.

In League One, Harry Souttar’s Leicester City slumped to a 2-1 home loss to Burton Albion, leaving them with one point from their opening two games.

Souttar played the full game and was rated 4/10 by Leicester Mercury, who wrote: “Shocking defending for Burton’s second goal, just didn’t get close to the attacker. Struggled on the ball before going up top as City’s striker late on.”

Connor Metcalfe was back in action for St Pauli as a 77th minute substitute in their 2-0 German DFB-Pokal loss to Rot-Weiss Essen. Sam Klein was an unused sub.

Josh Nisbet scored the winner for Roda JC in a 1-0 triumph at Dordrecht in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

Paul Izzo was back in action for Randers after his transfer saga, coming on at half-time to replace the injured Jannich Storch in a 1-0 loss away to Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga.

Izzo made two saves. Musa Toure was an 84th minute substitute while Odin Jones went unused on the bench.

Mitch Duke got an assist in his first-half cameo as Machida Zelvia won 3-1 over Urawa Reds in Japan’s J1 League. Tete Yengi put in a full shift.
