Mat Ryan and his relegation-battling Levante were undone by a cruel 94th minute deflection that saw them settle for a 1-1 draw with Girona in Spain’s La Liga on Saturday.
Levante appeared on their way to three points heading into stoppage time following Carlos Espi’s 50th minute goal.
But Girona rallied after Jon Ander Olasagasti’s 59th minute red card and found their equalizer when Joel Roca’s strike from just outside the box deflected in off a Levante defender, leaving Ryan wrong-footed.
There was a lengthy delay after the goal, as the VAR reviewed the decision but deemed a Girona attacker in an offside position wasn’t interfering with play.
The result leaves Levante in the drop zone on 22 points, four from safety with Elche in 17th on 26.
