In the USA NWSL playoffs, Mackenzie Arnold’s Portland Thorns were bundled out in the semi-finals with a 2-0 loss away to Washington Spirit.
Arnold put in a full shift while Kaitlyn Torpey started the game and played 63 minutes at right-back.
The Matildas goalkeeper could do nothing for Washington’s scintillating first goal on the counter-attack, as Rosemonde Kouassi raced forward and squared for Gift Monday to score.
Arnold was on the wrong end of a terrible backpass for Washington’s second, with the goalkeeper flailing a leg in vain as Croix Bethune rounded her to seal the win.
In the Italian Serie A Femminile, Alex Chidiac was an unused substitute in Como’s 1-0 win over AC Milan.
In the UEFA Women’s Champions League in midweek, Sam Kerr scored a double for Chelsea in a 6-0 victory at St Polten.
Kerr played the full 90 minutes for the first time since returning from a long-term ACL injury two months ago.
Both of her goals came in the second half, hitting the scoresheet in the 75th and 92nd minutes.
