Mary Fowler produced a moment of skill to set up Manchester City’s first goal in their 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, for whom Charlize Rule netted her maiden goal.
In a full fixture on Sunday in English Women’s Super League it was Fowler who paved the way for City’s opener scored by Kerstin Casparij in the 37th minute.
The Matildas forward collected the ball on the left side of the box, produced skill to hold off three defenders and flick a ball across goal for Casparij to convert.
Vivienne Miedema doubled City’s advantage, before 22-year-old defender Rule scored her first goal in England for the Seagulls as they mounted late pressure.
