Socceroos forward Connor Metcalfe made his competitive return as a substitute in St Pauli’s 3-2 loss to German Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Metcalfe was a 60th minute substitute for St Pauli, marking his first league appearance since September due to injury.
The Socceroo had last played in the 3-0 win at SC Freiburg in late September before being sidelined by osteitis pubis. Metcalfe resumed full training in February but a calf injury delayed his return.
Jackson Irvine started and put in a full shift for St Pauli, who pushed the Bavarians.
Martin Boyle was on the scoresheet in the Scottish Premiership, helping Hibernian past St Johnstone 3-0 on Saturday.
Boyle netted Hibs’ second goal of the half hour, bringing up his 10th for the league campaign having lost his starting place earlier in the season.
The Socceroo had an effort saved in the lead-up to the opening goal, before getting his own with a cool finish after being played in by Junior Hoilett.
Boyle was rated 7.5/10 by the Edinburgh Evening News who wrote: “Took his goal well to make it 2-0 as he popped up in a variety of positions, all designed to hurt the opposition.
“Didn’t show many signs of jet lag after a busy international break that took him from Australia to China and back. Given a rest after 75 minutes.”
Aussies Jack Iredale, Lewis Miller and Nectar Triantis all played full games.
Cameron Devlin returned for the first time in six games dating back to early February with injury and concussion protocols.
Devlin started and played 71 minutes for Hearts in a 3-0 loss to Celtic. Calum Nieuwenhof was a 46th minute sub for the Jambos.
Edinburgh Evening News rated Devlin 6/10 and wrote: “The usual mix of tackling and chasing after his time out injured. Will be important in the final weeks of the season.”
Nieuwenhof was rated 6/10: “Got himself involved in midfield. Showed for the ball and competed to win it back when needed.”
🗣 “𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁.”
🤕 Cammy Devlin opens up about his recent concussion experience and the road to return.
