Sam Kerr came off the bench to provide a late assist as Chelsea netted twice in the final 10 minutes to win 2-0 over Leicester City in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.
Kerr was brought on at half-time with scores 0-0, and almost broke the deadlock with a bullet header from Fran Kirby’s cross, but Foxes keeper Kirstie Levell made a remarkable save with her head.
Pernille Harder broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute, before Kerr won a header, nodding Kirby in to space and drill low in a second goal in stoppage time.
Elsewhere in the WSL, Mackenzie Arnold failed to claim a second-half corner leading to Birmingham City’s goal in a 1-1 draw with West Ham United.
Arnold had been in good form but allowed Louise Quinn to poke home the equalizer after failing to boss her box. Tameka Yallop put in a full shift also for the Hammers.
Kyah Simon was on the Tottenham bench for the first time but didn’t see any action as they went down 2-1 at Tottenham.
Caitlin Foord was a 76th minute sub for Arsenal in a 3-0 home win over Everton, while Steph Catley and Lydia Williams were unused subs for the Gunners.
Emily Gielnik was absent for Aston Villa due to injury in 3-0 loss at Reading, while Alanna Kennedy was an unused sub as Manchester City drew 2-2 with Manchester United. Hayley Raso is still out injured.
Amy Harrison made a rare start for PSV Eindhoven, getting through an hour, in a 4-1 home win over Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie Women.
Aivi Luik played a full game as Pomigliano won 2-1 away to Lazio who had Ella Mastrantonio on the bench in the Italian Serie A Women.
Sam Kerr scored the opening goal as Chelsea drew 3-3 with Wolfsburg in midweek in the Women’s UEFA Champions League.
Kerr, who put in a full shift, scored in the 12th minute with a sublime shot lifted over the Wolfsburg keeper after being played in behind the defence. The Matilda also volleyed over a good close-range chance in the 20th minute.
Elsewhere, Ellie Carpenter started and played 78 minutes as Olympique Lyon won 3-0 at Hacken, who had Dylan Holmes come off the bench in the 63rd minute.
Steph Catley played a full game while Caitlin Foord was a 56th minute sub as Arsenal were downed 4-1 by European champions Barcelona.
