Sam Kerr scored her 82nd goal in her 100th appearance for Chelsea as they knocked Arsenal out of the Women’s FA Cup 2-0 on Sunday.
Kerr netted Chelsea’s second goal in the 56th minute to round out the victory, which keeps them in the hunt for four trophies this term.
The Matildas skipper started despite traveling back from Australia in midweek, netting when Jelena Cankovic fed her with a neat through-ball. Kerr clipped a cool finish beyond Manuela Zinsberger to make it 2-0.
That marked Kerr’s fifth goal in 11 games against the Gunners, who had Steph Catley start and play 68 minutes, while Caitlin Foord got through the entire game.
Catley was out of position when Eve Perisset’s ball found Lauren James who set up Sophie Ingle for the first-half opener.
Elsewhere, Mackenzie Arnold suffered heartbreak by missing the decisive penalty as West Ham United were bundled out of the cup 7-6 on spotkicks by Aston Villa.
The Hammers and Villa had drawn 1-1, but Arnold fired her penalty over the crossbar to clinch victory for Emily Gielnik‘s side.
Gielnik, who came on as an 89th minute substitute, had a curling effort in extra-time saved by Arnold, before converting her own spotkick in the shootout.
