Sam Kerr missed a penalty but still managed to score the winner for Gotham FC in their 1-0 triumph away to Houston Dash in the USA’s National Women’s Soccer League.
Kerr, who switched from Chelsea to New York-based Gotham in the off-season, has now scored two goals in her past three games, all starts, for her new side.
Gotham won a 23rd minute penalty through winger Jordynn Dudley, but Kerr pushed wide her spotkick as the keeper guessed the right way.
But it only took 32 seconds after the restart for Kerr to make amends, deftly guiding home a cutback from Guro Reiten, as she opened up her feet.
Kerr was replaced in the 67th minute as Gotham held on.
In Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, there was no debut for Charli Grant for new club Malmo as they drew 0-0 with Pitea.
Amy Sayer and Courtney Nevin both put in full shifts for Malmo who are third on the table.
Isabel Gomez and Remy Siemsen’s Rosengard are due to play on Monday against Vittsjo.
