Hayley Raso was on the scoresheet and Alanna Kennedy was in action for Manchester City as a final tune-up ahead of the Matildas’ 2022 Asian Cup campaign in India.

The Matildas will fly to India for the Asian Cup where Australia are grouped with Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand. Australia’s first game is against Indonesia on January 21.

Before that, Raso and Kennedy both played full games as Manchester City won 6-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Women’s Super League.

Raso got busy down the right flank, holding up a deep pass and laying off a pass that led to Georgia Stanway’s goal to make it 3-0 in the 51st minute.

The Matildas winger got in behind the defence 10 minutes later but her cross-cum-shot went over the bar.

In the 73rd minute, Raso scored after using her pace to get on to a flick-on and racing into the box to slam home her side’s fifth goal.

Arsenal’s Matildas trio Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Lydia Williams were absent as the Gunners were beaten 2-0 in a shock loss to Birmingham City on Sunday. The trio had been permitted to return to Australia ahead of the Asian Cup.

Sam Kerr‘s Chelsea and Kyah Simon‘s Tottenham had their WSL clash postponed, along with Emily Gielnik‘s Aston Villa and Tameka Yallop and Mackenzie Arnold‘s West Ham.
