Cameron Burgess produced an excellent display as Ipsiwch Town claimed their maiden win of the English Premier League season, upsetting Tottenham 2-1 on the road on Sunday.
Burgess put in a full shift and earned an 8/10 rating from the East Anglian Daily Times, who wrote: “Hit the woodwork early on. Excellent in the air throughout.
“When Spurs played the ball on the floor, there were a few moments that caught him out, but he did well to limit them overall.”
Massimo Luongo was back in the matchday squad after injury and came on late as a 92nd minute substitute to milk the clock.
In the English Championship, Harry Souttar put in a full shift in Sheffield United’s 1-0 derby win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The Star rated Souttar 8/10 and wrote: “Dominant in the air as ever but a decisive touch at a near-post flicked effort diverted what could have been a bigger issue for the Blades in the first half.
“Did the basics of defending very well and used every ounce of experience to help United close out the result, provoking the second-biggest roar of the afternoon with a late challenge that won the ball, the throw-in and almost took Smith with it.”
John Iredale scored his third goal in four games for AaB as they drew 2-2 with Lyngby in the Danish Superliga.
Iredale equalised at 1-1 in the 52nd minute, before being replaced in the 77th minute with his side 2-1 up.
Martin Boyle won a penalty before a weak effort which was saved as struggling Hibernian’s plight got worse with a 2-1 home loss to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
Hibs were down 2-0 when Boyle produced some skill to break into the box on the right side and draw a foul for a penalty.
Boyle stepped up for the 63rd minute spotkick, but shot low to the goalkeeper’s right, allowing a simple save.
Boyle was replaced after 66 minutes and rated 4.5/10 by Edinburgh Evening News who wrote: “Won the penalty. Missed the penalty. Got hooked in favour of Harry McKirdy.”
Nectar Triantis started but was replaced at half-time, earning a 4/10: “Another who didn’t make it past the break. On-loan Sunderland midfielder was bringing nothing to the game.”
Lewis Miller and Jack Iredale were both unused subs for Hibs.
Jackson Irvine came up against the might of German powerhouse Bayern Munich as St Pauli went down 1-0 at home to the Bavarians in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Irvine played the full 90 minutes, while Connor Metcalfe was still out injured.
Nestory Irankunda didn’t play as Bayern II went down 1-0 to Ansbach in the German Regionalliga Bayern.
Max Balard also faced a big test in the Dutch Eredivisie, putting in a full shift for NAC Breda in a 3-0 home loss to PSV Eindhoven.
Kusini Yengi earned an improved 7/10 rating as Portsmouth won 3-0 over Preston North End in the English Championship.
Yengi started and played 78 minutes, while Sam Silvera was an unused sub for Pompey.
Portsmouth News wrote: “Still not up to last season’s form, but an improved display compared to recent weeks. Some good hold-up play at times and a noticeable increase in workload and chasing.”
Double sub for Wanderers.
