Cameron Burgess and Massimo Luongo both played their part as Ipswich Town clinched promotion to the English Premier League with a 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town.
Burgess put in a full shift and Luongo started and played 84 minutes as the Tractor Boys secured second spot with victory, when only a point was needed.
The East Anglian Daily Times rated all players 10/10, with Burgess praised: “Pretty incredible to see how far he’s come in such a short space of time. A gladiator at the back for Town – the physical presence they need.”
The Times wrote about Luongo: “Orchestrates everything in midfield so, so well. Scored three goals this season and they’ve all been absolutely crucial. Ipswich wouldn’t be where they are without him.”
In the Premier League, Aussie duo Cameron Peupion and Joe Gauci were both on the bench for their respective sides but went unused as Brighton & Hove Albion beat Aston Villa 1-0 on Sunday.
Alessandro Circati’s Parma secured promotion back to Italy’s Serie A in midweek and the Aussie defender put in a full shift as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cremonese on Sunday.
Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe’s St Pauli are still not assured of promotion to Germany’s Bundesliga, losing 1-0 to rivals Hamburg SV on Friday.
Irvine put in a full shift and Metcalfe started and played 86 minutes as St Pauli (63 points) slipped into second spot behind Holstein Kiel (64) and ahead of third-placed Fortuna Dusseldorf (59) with two games to play.
John Iredale was a 60th minute sub for Wehen Wiesbaden who lost 1-0 at home to leaders Holstein Kiel. Wehen are in the bottom three and in danger of relegation.
Mat Ryan played a full game in AZ Alkmaar’s 2-1 win over Twente to stay in the hunt for a top-three spot in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday.
Garang Kuol’s FC Volendam were relegated after a 4-1 loss at Ajax, while Ajdin Hrustic put in a full shift as Heracles lost 5-0 to lowly RKC Waalwijk. Hrustic’s side still aren’t guaranteed to stay up.
Elsewhere, Cammy Devlin had a strong game, earning a 7/10 rating, as Hearts lost 3-0 at Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Devlin started and played 73 minutes and Edinburgh Evening News wrote: “Got forward often with typical energy. Early volley well saved by Hart. Couldn’t influence the final third the way he wanted to.”
Nathaniel Atkinson was a 62nd minute sub, while Kye Rowles put in a full shift and was rated 6/10: “Had a decent game. Won tackles and distributed the ball with confidence but also culpable for allowing Kyogo too much room.”
Martin Boyle started and played 81 minutes as Hibernian lost 2-1 at Ross County.
Edinburgh Evening Times rated Boyle 6/10 and wrote: “Squandered a great one-on-one chance early in the second half. Lively as always.”
Cristian Volpato was an unused sub as Sassuolo boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over champions Inter Milan in Italy’s Serie A.
Awer Mabil and Joshua Laws both played full games as Grasshoppers won 3-2 over Lausanne in a major boost to their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Swiss Super League.
