Caitlin Foord came off the bench to provide the assist for the late equalizer before an even later winner for Arsenal who stunned leaders Manchester City 2-1 on Sunday.
The result had significant implications on the Women’s Super League title race with City top on 52 points with one game to play, while Sam Kerr’s Chelsea won 8-0 to better City’s goal difference and close to 49 points with two games to play.
Arsenal are third on 47 points with one game to play, meaning they cannot win the title.
Lauren Hemp put City ahead in the 17th minute to have them on track, with Mary Fowler almost doubling their advantage with a low left-foot drive which was saved in the 48th minute.
Foord entered the fray alongside Steph Catley in the 63rd minute and the winger almost equalized in the 78th minute when Stina Blackstenius played her in, but the Matildas’ shot under pressure was wide.
The Aussie made her impact in the 89th minute after some pinball inside the box, nodding a header across goal for Blackstenius to poke home the leveller.
Blackstenius would grab the winner in the 92nd minute from Kim Little’s diagonal ball.
Kyra Cooney-Cross started and played 62 minutes, while Fowler put in a full shift and Alanna Kennedy was an 87th minute sub.
Teagan Micah kept a clean sheet to help Liverpool beat Manchester United 1-0 and leapfrog their rivals into fourth spot.
Mackenzie Arnold put in a full shift as West Ham United drew 1-1 with Lecester City, for whom Courtney Nevin was an unused sub.
Clare Wheeler dished off a classy assist for Everton’s opening goal in a 2-2 draw with Charlotte Grant’s Tottenham on Saturday.
Wheeler worked a tight one-two before releasing Sara Holmgaard to score in the 10th minute. Grant was a 65th minute sub for Spurs.
