Jackson Irvine got an assist but couldn’t prevent relegation-threatened St Pauli from slumping to a 2-1 defeat away to RB Leipzig in Germany’s Bundesliga on Saturday.
The result means St Pauli are last on the table, with one game to play. However, St Pauli are level on points with two other teams, Wolfsburg and Heidenheim heading into the final gameday.
St Pauli also host Wolfsburg on the final gameday, offering hope of survival, with one side set to claim the promotion/relegation playoff spot.
Irvine played a full game and Connor Metcalfe made a rare start, playing 89 minutes, in St Pauli’s defeat.
Irvine looped a header forward for Abdoulie Ceesay to rifle home in the 86th minute for what proved to be a mere consolation.
Mat Ryan played his part with some key saves as Levante rallied from 2-0 down to win 3-2 over Osasuna to keep alive their survival hopes in Spain’s La Liga.
Levante are now two points from safety with three games to play in the La Liga season.
