Adam Taggart netted his first goal since October last year as Cerezo Osaka won the derby 3-1 over Gamba Osaka in the Japanese J.League on Saturday.

Taggart, who missed months due to a knee injury, was involved in his sixth game since his recovery and equalized in the 58th minute.

The Socceroo fired home from close range after Hiroaki Okuno got in on goal, only for Genta Miura’s tackle to fall kindly to Taggart in space inside the box.

Taggart was outjumped by teammate Okuno for Cerezo’s second goal before being replaced on 74 minutes.

Bailey Wright played a full game in defence and received a 7/10 rating as Sunderland clinched promotion back to the English Championship with a 2-0 win over Wycombe in the League One playoff final.

The Chronicle wrote: “Generally sound, although had one heart-in-mouth moment when he mis-read the bounce of the ball and it let Vokes in on goal.”

Cameron Devlin had a stand-out game, earning an 8/10 rating, as Hearts lost the Scottish FA Cup final 2-0 to Rangers in extra-time on Saturday.

The Scotsman wrote about Devlin, who started and played 105 minutes: “The tenacious Australian has made a reputation for himself of being a tough-tackling midfielder and he did not disappoint here. Constantly harried all shirts in blue. Understandably faded but can be proud of his performance.”

Nathaniel Atkinson put in a full shift but only received a 6/10. The Scotsman wrote: “Rangers focused most of their attacks down Hearts’ right and Atkinson had to deal with not only Kent but also the overlapping Bassey. It was a testing afternoon for the recently-capped Australian but he stood up to challenge.”

Mat Ryan was an unused sub as Real Sociedad finished their La Liga season in sixth with a 2-1 home loss to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Fran Karacic put in a full shift as Brescia’s promotion hopes were ended after a 2-1 loss to Monza on Sunday completing a 4-2 aggregate defeat in the Serie B playoffs.

In midweek, Ajdin Hrustic was among the Eintracht Frankfurt players to convert their penalties in the shootout as they won the Europa League final over Rangers.
