Caitlin Foord extended her goalscoring run to three goals in three games as Arsenal won 2-0 over Liverpool in the English Women’s Super League on Sunday.
Foord started in her usual role on the left side of attack, while Steph Catley was again benched with Katie McCabe starting at left back.
Liverpool goalkeeper Teagan Micah was demoted for the game after shipping five goals in last weekend’s 5-1 loss to Manchester City, with Rachael Laws preferred.
Foord was busy throughout, nearly tapping in at the back post in the 15th minute, while her low ball from the left byline near half-time was almost deflected in by Gemma Bonner.
The Matildas forward almost scored in the 65th minute, with her right-foot shot bringing a good save from Laws, but she had her moment four minutes later.
Foord scored in the 69th minute, converting Alessia Russo’s low ball across goal with her left foot.
Catley was a 72nd minute substitute, while Kyra Cooney-Cross remained unused.
Elsewhere, Mary Fowler was a 79th minute substitute while Alanna Kennedy was back in the Man City squad but remained an unused substitute as they won 2-0 at Tottenham.
For Spurs, Charlotte Grant started and played 76 minutes on the right side of defence.
Mackenzie Arnold and Katrina Gorry’s West Ham United claimed a much-needed 2-1 win away to Bristol City.
Arnold put in a full shift while Gorry started and was replaced in the 12th minute of second-half stoppage time as the Hammers moved three points clear of last-placed City.
Clare Wheeler played a full game as Everton slumped to their third straight loss, going down 1-0 at home to Courtney Nevin’s Leicester City.
Nevin started and played 56 minutes for the Foxes, while Remy Siemsen was an unused sub.
Charlize Rule and Sam Kerr (ACL) were absent for Chelsea’s 3-0 win at Brighton on Saturday.
In the Spanish Primera Feminina Division, Hayley Raso was a 46th minute substitute as Real Madrid triumphed 1-0 away to Athletic Bilbao.
In the French Coupe de France Feminine Round of 16, Ellie Carpenter played a full game as Olympique Lyon got past Nantes 6-0.
Clare Hunt was absent for PSG’s 2-1 win over Saint-Etienne, while Sarah Hunter started and played 74 minutes as Paris FC beat Le Havre 2-0.
