Mary Fowler provided two assists to lead Manchester City’s comeback from 3-0 down but it fell short as they went down 4-2 to Manchester United in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.
City fell 3-0 down in the first half, before Fowler jinked and whipped in an inch-perfect cross from the right wing for Vivienne Miedema to rifle home from close range in the 40th minute.
Deep into stoppage time, Fowler again played a central role as City made it 3-2 with her left-foot cross from a corner headed home by Rebecca Knaak.
United made it 4-2 straight after the break, before Fowler almost pulled one back in the 78th minute with a deft touch from Jill Roord’s cutback but Khiara Keating clawed it away.
Fowler played a full game while Alanna Kennedy was absent.
Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross both played full games while Caitlin Foord was a 57th minute sub in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Hayley Raso started and played 64 minutes in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.
Charli Grant was a 64th minute sub for Spurs while Clare Hunt was unused along with Courtney Nevin for the Foxes.
Elsewhere, Clare Wheeler put in a full shift for Everton in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.
Teagan Micah returned as Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper after the winter break, helping the Reds get past Dario Vidosic’s Brighton on Friday.
Micah was the feature on Friday, starting for Liverpool ahead of Rachael Laws, having enjoyed a run of games late last year before the break. The Matildas stopper didn’t play at all until November, with Laws preferred, but now seems to have become first choice.
Micah wasn’t perfect, though, making a mess of a backpass in the 23rd minute, with teammate Grace Fisk bailing her out.
The Aussie keeper was beaten by a deflected Nakita Parris strike in the 66th minute for 1-1, before a late Jorelyn Carabali own goal gifted Liverpool the win.
On Sunday, Katrina Gorry put in a full shift but West Ham United went down 5-0 to Chelsea, for whom Sam Kerr recently joined in a training camp over the winter break in a sign her return from an ACL injury isn’t too far away.
Kerr sustained the ACL injury in January 2024, with ACL injury recoveries typically taking 12 months. Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor said last month Kerr was likely to return to action in either February or March.
Things you love to see. 😍

In the French Premiere Ligue, Ellie Carpenter’s Olympique Lyon claimed a major victory in the title race, beating PSG 2-0 on the road.
Carpenter put in a full shift, with the win seeing Lyon pull seven points clear at the top, with PSG dropping to third and Paris FC into second.
