Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy both played their part as Manchester City knocked out Steph Catley, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord’s Arsenal from the English Women’s FA Cup.
City triumphed 1-0 at Arsenal to book their spot in the FA Cup quarter-final, with Fowler coming on in the 67th minute, while Kennedy was introduced in stoppage time to wind down the clock and shore up the backline.
Foord put in a full shift, while Cooney-Cross started in midfield and played 77 minutes.
Foord had a 14th minute chance, finding space on the left side, cutting inside in trademark style before a curling shot forced a routine save.
Cooney-Cross almost set up the opener with a pinpoint 59th minute delivery which Lotte Wubben-Moy met only for her looped header to hit the crossbar.
Catley was a 66th minute substitute with Katie McCabe again preferred at left-back.
Elsewhere, Clare Wheeler started and played an hour as Everton progressed with a 7-1 win at Nottingham Forest.
Charlotte Grant played a full game as Tottenham got past Charlton 1-0, while Courtney Nevin was an unused sub in Leicester City’s 6-2 victory over Birmingham City.
Teagan Micah was absent again as Liverpool moved into the last eight with a 2-0 win at Millwall Lionesses.
In the French Feminine Division 1, Ellie Carpenter put in a full shift as Olympique Lyon’s perfect record was ended although they managed a 90th minute equaliser to avoid defeat in a 1-1 draw with Clare Hunt’s PSG. Hunt started and played 61 minutes.
In the Spanish Primera Division Femenina, Hayley Raso was a 61st minute substitute, coinciding with three goals for Real Madrid in their 4-1 victory over Real Betis.
