Mary Fowler continued her excellent form for Manchester City with two assists in their 4-1 win away to Teagan Micah’s Liverpool in the English Women’s Super League.
Fowler has enjoyed an extended run in City’s XI lately, starting in their past four games in all competitions, with two goals and an assist coming in.
The Matilda was involved in the opener, breaking free down the right flank, before laying off for Jessica Park whose shot wasn’t held by the keeper, with Lauren Hemp firing home the rebound.
Fowler got her assist in the 22nd minute, weighting a neat pass on the edge of the box to Park who showed quick feet before firing home for 2-0.
In the 50th minute, Fowler delivered a pinpoint corner right on the spot for Khelifa Shaw to nod home for 4-0.
Fowler was replaced in the 72nd minute, while Alanna Kennedy played a full game at the back. Micah was unused for the Reds.
Emily van Egmond made a splash in San Diego Wave’s second game of the new NWSL season with a 98th minute winner in their 1-0 triumph over Seattle Reign.
Van Egmond struck dramatically after a cutback from the right side which was intended for her was blocked by a teammate, before inadvertently deflecting off Alex Morgan to the Matilda who curled it home from six yards.
Van Egmond had come off the bench in the 58th minute for her heroic moment. Fellow Aussie Kaitlyn Torpey was a 58th minute substitute.
In the English Women’s League Cup final, Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross all secured silverware as Arsenal beat Sam Kerr’s Chelsea 1-0.
All three came off the bench, with Stina Blackstenius netting an 116th-minute winner.
Foord was a 72nd minute sub, Catley was an 84th minute sub and Cooney-Cross came on during extra-time, in the 105th minute.
