Hayley Raso played her part in helping Eintracht Frankfurt progress to the final stage of UEFA Champions League qualification with a goal and an assist.
Raso, who has struggled for impact since her move from Tottenham to Germany, provided the assist for Eintracht’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Malmo.
Among the Malmo line-up were a host of Aussies, with Courtney Nevin putting in a full shift and Amy Sayer starting and playing 85 minutes. Charli Grant was an unused sub.
Raso provided the assist for Laura Freigang’s 76th minute goal to make it 2-0, cleverly flicking the ball on before driving forward and spreading play left to her teammate to do the rest. Raso was substituted off six minutes later.
In midweek it was Raso who opened the scoring in Eintracht’s 8-0 victory over Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia.
The Matildas attacker, who only managed two goals in 24 appearances for Eintracht last term, ghosted into the box unmarked to glance home a diagonal cross.
Raso’s Eintracht are now among the unseeded teams in the League Path where they’ll face an opponent over two legs on August 26 and September2 to decide Champions League qualification. The draw will be made on Tuesday.
In USA’s NWSL, Sam Kerr had a relatively quiet evening, playing the full 90 minutes without any clear-cut chances in Gotham’s 1-0 victory over San Diego Wave.
In Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, Remy Siemsen, Bryleeh Henry and Isabel Gomez all started for Rosengard in their 2-0 loss at Vaxjo. Siemsen and Henry put in full shifts while Gomez played 71 minutes.
