Jackson Irvine fluffed two first-half chances as St Pauli secured their first point of the new German Bundesliga season with a 0-0 home draw with RB Leipzig on Sunday.
Irvine should’ve put the newly promoted side ahead in the 18th minute from a corner when Hauke Wahl flicked the ball centrally, only for the Socceroo’s diving header to go over the bar from close range.
The Australian midfielder had another chance in the 36th minute, bursting into the box to get on the end of a cross but his glancing header sailed narrowly wide.
Irvine played the full game while Connor Metcalfe was injected in the 82nd minute.
Harry Souttar was labelled “an absolute colossus” for his display which helped Sheffield United rise into the top four with a 1-0 win over Callum Elder’s Derby County.
The Sheffield Star rated Souttar 8/10 and wrote: “An absolute colossus – both in stature and performance.
“In the right place at the right time to mop up everything Derby threw at him, in the air and on the deck, and even later had a moment of adventure where he knocked it past his man and stormed down the right wing …
“Although his cross was gobbled up by Zetterstrom and he then faced a long sprint back. Later nutmegged Nyambe after a corner fell to him at the back stick in a great performance.”
Souttar put in a full shift while Elder started and played 82 minutes at full-back for the Rams.
