Socceroos defender Lewis Miller scored a double as Hibernian won 4-0 over Peterhead in Scotland’s Premier Sports Cup on Saturday while Martin Boyle got an assist.
Miller opened the scoring in the fifth minute, getting down the right flank before cutting back and whipping in a cross on his left foot which crept in at the back post.
The Australian defender doubled Hibs’ lead in the 50th minute, rifling home a low strike after they probed down the right side, before a kind lay-off inside the box.
Boyle got in down the right flank in the 59th minute and cut back for Rudi Molotnikov to score.
Aiden O’Neill put in a full shift in Standard Liege’s goalless draw at Genk in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.
Jordan Bos started but was replaced after half an hour due to injury in Westerlo’s 3-0 win over Cercle Brugge.
Mohamed Toure came off the bench to score in his second game for Randers as they won 3-1 over Viborg in the Danish Superliga on Sunday.
Toure was injected in the 57th minute and netted in the 75th minute. Paul Izzo put in a full shift.
John Iredale, who moved from Wehen Wiesbaden to Denmark in the off-season, played a full game in AaB ‘s 2-1 victory over Silkeborg.
Awer Mabil provided an assist as Grasshoppers claimed a 2-2 draw with Luzern in the Swiss Super League.
Mabil laid off the pass with a long diagonal ball into the box for Pascal Schurpf to head them 2-1 up in the 70th. Mabil was replaced after 81 minutes.
In transfer news, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is on the cusp of joining Scottish Premiership club Motherwell.
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell said: “Apostolos is traveling over to Scotland just now and I can confirm there is an agreement in place subject to medical.
“His partner was due to give birth on Monday so that has delayed proceedings by a couple of days. He’s someone we have been tracking and following for a while. We would hope if we can get him past that medical in the next day or so, I would love to think he starts to come into the mix and our group right away.
“I don’t want to say too much more than that, but I think it is important that I do confirm the rumours that are out there because I am always dispelling them when I think they are absolute nonsense but this one is accurate, although some of the details in terms of numbers and finances are very inaccurate, I have to say.
“However, he is travelling and is someone we believe is coming with real good pedigree. He has 17 goals in 24 games last season in the A League and has been part of the all-star team, so he is someone, that at 25, we believe can develop at this football club and hopefully pitch in with what is a real good history of number nines.”
Earlier in the week, MLS club Nashville SC signed Patrick Yazbek from Norwegian outfit Viking as part of the league’s U22 Initiative.
“Patrick is a progressive midfielder who helps create scoring chances out of midfield with his robust and dynamic link-up play,” Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs said.
“His experiences with the Australian National Team as well as play in the top division in Norway at such a young age have already demonstrated unique attributes that should translate here in Major League Soccer.”
