Caitlin Foord scored a brilliant solo goal but Arsenal went down 2-1 to Chelsea in an early-season title blow in the English Women’s Super League this weekend.
Foord’s Arsenal trailed Chelsea 2-0 early before the Matildas forward did brilliantly to pull one back in the 43rd minute.
The Matildas forward received the ball on the left touchline, before jinking her way into the box, beating a defender on her way towards the byline before curling in a fine effort from a tough angle.
Foord put in a full shift as the Gunners unsuccessfully searched for an equaliser. Kyra Cooney-Cross was a 76th minute substitute with Steph Catley unused on the bench.
Mary Fowler started and played 77 minutes as Manchester City won 2-1 at Liverpool. Alanna Kennedy was an unused substitute for City while Liverpool keeper Teagan Micah remained sidelined with an ankle injury.
Fowler fizzed wide a 74th minute chance on the turn on her left foot with the scores still locked at 1-1 before being replaced.
Hayley Raso was absent due to injury as Tottenham went down 3-0 to Manchester United. Charlotte Grant got a rare start and played the full 90 along with Clare Hunt in defence.
Courtney Nevin put in a full shift in Leicester City’s 0-0 draw at Aston Villa, while Clare Wheeler and Katrina Gorry faced off, both playing full games, in Everton’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United.
ℹ️ Raso, Nildén and Oroz are all out with injuries for this fixture.
