Joe Gauci impressed on his Barnsley debut following his loan move from Aston Villa, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Burton Albion in England’s League One on Saturday.
Gauci signed with the Tykes in midweek on loan until the end of the season from Villa, where he was behind World Cup winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The Australian shot-stopper got an immediate starting debut, doing well to thwart Rumarn Burrell when he was in one-on-one, cutting out an attempted square pass.
Into the second half, Gauci produced a strong save to deny Fabio Tavares too.
Barnsley manager Darrell Clarke said: “Pleasing on the clean sheet. I think Joe has come in and done really well.
“Took some great catches. Got us attacking very quickly as well. Pleased with his debut.”

In England’s Championship, Hayden Matthews made his Portsmouth debut in midweek, before backing up as a 71st minute substitute in Pompey’s 0-0 draw with promotion hopefuls Burnley on Saturday.
Matthews signed with Portsmouth for a reported AU$2.5m from Sydney FC last week and was thrust into their starting line-up for a midweek 1-0 home loss to Millwall.
The News rated Matthews 5/10 for his debut, writing: “Decent touches as he settled into English football but then caught out for the opening goal as Mihailo Ivanovic got behind Aussie and finished. Steady from there on but will rue key lapse on bow.”
Thomas Waddingham made a 10-minute cameo against Millwall but was unused on Saturday against Burnley.
