Jackson Irvine is facing the prospect of missing St Pauli’s relegation battle and potentially Australia’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to a stress-related foot injury.

Irvine was ruled out of St Pauli’s German Bundesliga clash with Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, which ended as a handy 1-1 draw.

St Pauli’s injury update on Irvine said: “FC St. Pauli will be without Jackson Irvine for the time being after an osteological examination revealed a stress reaction in the skipper’s left foot.

“The 32-year-old Australian reported feeling pain in the area after the away win at Holstein Kiel.”

Pre-game, St Pauli boss Alexander Blessin said: “With Jacko, we’re not ready to write him off for the entire season. It’s a micro-fracture.“

Connor Metcalfe made his first start for St Pauli since August following his long-term injury lay-off, playing 59 minutes in the draw.

Cameron Burgess and Massimo Luongo both got game-time as Ipswich Town moved a big step closer to relegation from the English Premier League following a 4-0 home loss to Arsenal.

Burgess came on in the 35th minute as a substitute for Jack Clarke after Leif Davis’ red card and performed well.

East Anglian Daily Times rated Burgess 5/10 and wrote: “Town looked more solid when he came on despite being down to 10 men.”

Luongo made a 10-minute cameo as an 81st minute substitute.

Kusini Yengi was back after a month out injured, playing as a 75th minute substitute for Portsmouth in their 5-3 win over Norwich City which looks to have kept them safe in the Championship.

Alex Robertson started and played 67 minutes for Cardiff City who are mired in the drop zone with three games to play following a 2-0 loss to Sheffield United on Good Friday.

Cameron Devlin was sent off in extra-time as Hearts missed out on qualifying for the Scottish Cup final after a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday.

Devlin started the contest and was dismissed in the 116th minute, his second yellow after a 77th minute booking, before Oday Dabbagh’s 118th minute winner for Aberdeen.

Edinburgh Evening News still rated Devlin 8/10 and wrote: “Back in the starting line-up for his energy and tenacity. Unusual to see him on the left of a diamond midfield. A tireless runner who never gave up chasing and harassing. Also won numerous free-kicks. Unfortunate to be sent off for a second booking late on.”

Calum Nieuwenhof wasn’t in the Hearts matchday squad for the semi-final.

Mat Ryan was in goal as Lens triumphed 3-1 on the road against Brest in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday.

Denis Genreau was an 86th minute substitute for Deportivo Coruna in their 0-0 home draw with Tenerife in Spain’s Segunda Division on Sunday.

Nestory Irankunda put in a full shift, picking up a late booking, in Grasshoppers’ 1-0 home defeat to Winterthur in the Swiss Super League on Saturday.

Aiden O’Neill was absent for a second game running for Standard Liege in their 1-1 home draw with Westerlo.

Rhys Youlley was an 80th minute sub for Westerlo, while Jordan Bos (hamstring) remains out.

In Korea’s K League 2, Connor Chapman was given his marching orders in Gimpo Citizen’s 2-1 home loss to Gyeongnam on Sunday.

Chapman was handed his second yellow card in the 55th minute, with his side leading 1-0 at the time, with Gyeongnam capitalizing on his absence with two goals in the next five minutes.
