Jackson Irvine returned from injury for the first time in six months with a cameo appearance in St Pauli’s 2-0 loss away to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany’s Bundesliga on Saturday.
Irvine hadn’t played competitively since April 12 due to a foot injury followed by a minor quad concern in the warm-up on his return last month.
But the Socceroos midfielder came on in the 86th minute for St Pauli who are 14th with seven points from eight games.
Connor Metcalfe was also a substitute, injected in the 61st minute but he was unable to help Kiezkicker turn around the deficit.
Metcalfe offered plenty after his introduction but spurned a good chance when a rebound fell to him, only to blaze over the bar.
Alessandro Circati played the full 90 minutes for Parma who kept another clean sheet in a 0-0 home draw with Como in Italy’s Serie A.
Cristian Volpato was a 60th minute substitute for Sassuolo in their 1-0 home loss to AS Roma on Sunday.
Mat Ryan put in a full shift and made a couple of saves in Levante’s 1-1 draw away to Real Mallorca in Spain’s La Liga on Sunday.
Jordan Bos went off with an injury with 20 minutes to play in Feyenoord’s 3-2 home loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday.
It’s unclear what the injury is at this stage, but comes after he won Feyenoord’s Player of the Month award.
Ajdin Hrustic put in a full shift as Heracles’ relegation concerns worsened with a 3-0 humbling away to FC Volendam in the Dutch Eredivisie. The result leaves Heracles with just three points from 10 games.
Max Balard played 82 minutes in NAC Brda’s 3-3 draw at Heerenveen.
Cam Peupion played an hour in ADO Den Haag’s 2-1 win over Den Bosch in the Eerste Divisie.
Ryan Teague missed Mechelen’s 1-1 draw with Leuven having recently undergone meniscus surgery which will sideline him for two months.
Nick D’Agostino made it two goals in tow games with Viking’s fifth goal in a 5-1 rout over Bryne in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
D’Agostino was introduced in the 69th minute and scored in the 89th, making an intelligent run when he spotted a gap before poking home the through-ball.
Gianni Stensness got game-time, coming on at half-time for his third appearance in the past month after missing most of 2025 with a knee injury.
Cammy Devlin earned an 8/10 rating for a fine display in Hearts’ 3-1 home win over Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Edinburgh Evening News wrote: “At his tenacious best with series of tackles and blocks, plus some handbags with McGregor. Never stopped all afternoon.”
Apostolos Stamatelopoulos scored his fourth goal in four games as Motherwell won 2-1 away to Livingston.
Stamatelopoulos equalized from the spot in the 59th minute, rifling home emphatically to the goalkeeper’s right.
Zach Sapsford netted Dundee United’s leveller before they went on to win 3-1 over St Mirren.
Sapsford curled home a fine, low free-kick from the edge of the box, after the goalkeeper had handled just outside the box.
Hayden Matthews had an afternoon to forget, netting the decisive own goal before limping off injured in Portsmouth’s 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City in the English Championship.
Matthews started the game and actually impressed until his unfortunate 70th minute own goal, before going off with cramp a minute later.
He clutched at his leg immediately after headed in the own goal. Portsmouth boss John Mousinho said it was clear Matthews was “tiring” in the lead-up to the own goal.
Portsmouth News rated Matthews 6/10 and wrote: “First league start of the season having been preferred to Knight in the centre of defence and turned in a very assured performance until that crucial mistake. Up until that own goal, he coped very well and looked the part. Came off immediately afterwards with what appeared to be cramp.”
Mousinho also clarified the extent of Adrian Segecic’s ankle injury. He said: ‘It’s not too bad considering what we thought.
“We’re looking at four-to-six weeks for Segs, so that’s a much better prognosis than we originally feared. He’s turned his ankle and there’s ligament damage, but there’s no need for surgery.”
Lewis Miller helped Blackburn to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Southampton, playing the full 90 minutes and being credited with an assist after laying off to Ryan Alebiosu whose cross eluded everyone and went in for a goal.
Nestory Irankunda was a 64th minute substitute in Watford’s 3-1 loss at leaders Coventry City, while Callum Elder put in a full shift in Derby County’s 1-0 win over QPR.
Sam Silvera played the second half while Riley McGree went unused in Middlesbrough’s 1-1 home draw with Wrexham, while Cam Burgess put in a full shift in Swansea’s 2-1 win over Norwich.
In transfer news, Sheffield United is reportedly keen to bring injured Leicester City defender Harry Souttar back to the Blades in the January transfer window.
Souttar previously had a good loan spell with United and manager Chris Wilder wants to lure him back to the struggling Championship side. Souttar hasn’t played since rupturing his Achilles on Boxing Day but is progressing well.
