Martin Boyle was voted Hibernian’s Player of the Match while Kye Rowles was subbed off at half-time after an average display in Hearts’ 5-0 loss to Rangers in Scotland’s Premiership.
Boyle started and played 89 minutes as Hibs edged past Dundee 2-1, with the Socceroo having a spectacular second-half volley saved.
BBC Sport rated Boyle best afield and wrote: “Hibs really missed him when he was away at the Asian Cup, and while he didn’t score today, he offered his usual flair.”
Lewis Miller put in a full shift at right-back, while Nectar Triantis was an 84th minute substitute.
Elsewhere, Hearts were routed 5-0 by Rangers with Kye Rowles starting at left centre-back but replaced at the interval.
Edinburgh Evening News rated Rowles 5/10 and wrote: “Lost possession for the second Rangers goal and couldn’t stop Dessers heading the third. Replaced at half-time.”
Nathaniel Atkinson played a full game at right-back, earning a 6/10: “Caught on the ball and looked unsettled at times. Up against a difficult opponent in Cortes.”
Calem Nieuwenhof started and played 82 minutes, earning a 6/10: “Tried his best but could not compete with Lundstram.”
Cammy Devlin returned from injury as a 61st minute substitute, earning a 6/10: “Will be grateful for the game time after injury. Looked composed.”
Tete Yengi continued his good form in Scotland with an assist in Livingston’s 3-2 loss at Ross County.
Yengi, who put in a full shift, dished off for Bruce Anderson’s 86th minute equalizer, only for County to win it late.
Mat Ryan kept a clean sheet as AZ Alkmaar re-discovered their form with an impressive 2-0 home win over Ajax Amsterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Ryan made a good low save to thwart Anton Gaaei’s 29th minute effort, while he got down fast to palm away Kristian Hlynsson’s 69th minute chance when he found space in the box.
Elsewhere, Garang Kuol was an unused substitute as FC Volendam lost 4-0 to Heerenveen.
Connor Metcalfe scored one goal and set up another as St Pauli claimed an important 4-3 win away to second-placed Holstein Kiel in the German 2.Bundesliga on Friday.
Metcalfe started and played 72 minutes, providing the pass for Marcel Hartel’s 34th minute goal for 2-0 with a low cross from down the right flank.
The Socceroo combined with compatriot Jackson Irvine in the 57th minute to score to make it 4-1. Irvine provided a weighted ball across the box for the unmarked Metcalfe at the back post to rifle home.
Irvine put in a full shift as St Pauli moved six points clear at the top.
John Iredale was a 74th minute substitute in Wehen Wiesbaden’s 2-1 home defeat to Paderborn.
Cristian Volpato started and played 68 minutes as Sassuolo were beaten 3-2 by Empoli in the Italian Serie A.
Joe Gauci was an unused substitute for Aston Villa again as they beat Nottingham Forest 4-2 in the English Premier League.
Massimo Luongo and Cameron Burgess both played full games as promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town kept up their charge with a 3-1 win over Birmingham City in the English Championship.
Aussie trio Tom Glover, Riley McGree and Sam Silvera all had rough evenings as Middlesbrough lost 2-0 to Plymouth.
McGree started and was replaced after 58 minutes, rated 6/10 by Teesside Live who wrote: “Tried to make things happen for his side in the first half and provided plenty of effort. Was harshly hooked just before the hour mark with Boro then ultimately losing any kind of urgency they had in attack.”
Silvera played 80 minutes and was rated 4/10: “After the high of Leicester, a really poor showing here summed up where the Australian forward is right now in what Carrick described as a learning season for him. A bit too predictable and one-dimensional when looking to cut in from the left, he struggled to make any kind of positive impact throughout and was lucky to survive the chop when the first round of changes came.”
Glover put in a full shift and was rated 5/10: “Made two really good saves in the first half, but Boro were 2-0 down by that point, from which, the first goal Glover was unconvincing with. With his kicking too, he continues to not look as assured as Seny Dieng.”
Mitch Duke was absent as newly promoted Machida Zelvia opened the new Japanese J1 League season with a 1-1 draw with Gamba Osaka.
Thomas Deng put in a full shift in defence as Albirex Niigata won 2-1 at Sagan Tosu, while Mitch Langerak played a full game as Nagoya Grampus went down 3-0 to Kashima Antlers.
