Arsenal’s Matildas trio Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Kyra Cooney-Cross tasted major success overnight as the Gunners beat Barcelona 1-0 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in Lisbon.
The Gunners triumphed thanks to Stina Blackstenius’ 74th minute strike, having been under pressure throughout the second 45.
Foord was busy in attack, pushing an early header wide, and creating chances with her wide play.
Goal.com rated Foord 8/10 and wrote: “Honoured her defensive duties brilliantly while also providing an effective outlet to get Arsenal up the pitch amid spells of pressure.”
Catley put in a full shift in defence, earning a 7/10 rating from Goal.com, who wrote: “Defended stoutly. Often stepped out and made some good passes to kickstart attacks, too.”
Cooney-Cross remained an unused substitute but was in the thick of the celebrations.
The trio join Ellie Carpenter in lifting the trophy, after she won the title with Olympique Lyon in 2020 and 2022.
