Sam Kerr rounded out her six-year career at Chelsea with a goal and a rousing round of applause in a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the WSL on Saturday.
Kerr rifled home a classy volley from Lauren James’ cross to decide the contest between the Blues and Red Devils.
The Matildas superstar had earlier this week confirmed her exit from the Blues at the end of the season, with reports indicating she’ll head to the USA’s NWSL.
Kerr was replaced in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, with the Chelsea crowd affording her a standing ovation as she departed.
Ellie Carpenter put in a full shift for the Blues.
“It was an amazing day, kind of fitting to play against Man United, a team I’ve scored so many of my favourite goals against, and to score one like that today was awesome,” Kerr told reporters.
“It’s also fitting I end level with Fran after we played some pretty good football together. But I mean, every goal to me for this club is special. I enjoyed every minute today.
“It’s just, honestly, the biggest honour to play for this club, and I have so many amazing memories which I’ll carry with me forever.”
Clare Wheeler was a 59th minute substitute while Emily van Egmond started but was replaced at the break in Everton’s 1-0 win over relegated Leicester.
Caitlin Foord played 79 minutes and Steph Catley was a 91st minute substitute in Arsenal’s 3-1 win at Liverpool. The result locked Arsenal into second.
Alanna Kennedy put in a full shift as London City Lionesses finished their maiden season up in sixth, downing Aston Villa 2-1.
Mary Fowler played the full 90 in Manchester City’s 4-1 win away to Aston Villa for whom Katrina Gorry was an 83rd minute sub.
Charlize Rule started and played 64 minutes in Brighton’s 2-1 home loss to Tottenham.
Hayley Raso was an 82nd minute substitute for Eintracht Frankfurt in a 4-2 win over Union Berlin the German Frauen-Bundesliga.
