Martin Boyle is in a “stable condition” after being taken to hospital following a nasty head and neck injury in Hibernian’s 2-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat to Rangers on Sunday.

Boyle was stretchered off in the 45th minute after a heavy fall following an aerial challenge for the ball with John Souttar. The game was delayed almost 10 minutes as the Socceroo received treatment.

Hibs confirmed Boyle went straight to hospital and was “receiving the best possible care”.

Hibs manager Nick Montgomery added after the game: “He’s landed on his head, probably a bit of concussion, a bit of a sore neck and that’s something you have to worry about.”

Hibernian FC can confirm that Martin Boyle is now in a stable condition in hospital.

Everyone at Hibs wishes Martin a speedy recovery 💚

Nectar Triantis started and played 81 minutes in midfield for Hibs in the loss, earning a 7/10 rating from Edinburgh Evening News, who wrote: “Took a while to look comfortable in central midfield.

“But excellent in second half – and deserved his ovation when replaced by Levitt late on.”

In Sunday’s other quarter-final, Tete Yengi made it four goals in six games for Livingston as they went down 4-2 to Celtic.

Jordan Bos scored for Westerlo in second-half stoppage-time, unleashing a long-range shot into the top corner.
