Harry Souttar marked his return following 16 months out with injury with a goal for relegated Leicester City in a 1-1 draw with Millwall in England’s Championship on Friday night.
Souttar hadn’t played since December 2024 due to an Achilles injury, followed by a injury setback a few months ago.
The big Socceroos defender had been on the Foxes’ bench in recent week sand was thrust into the starting XI on Friday in a game which came following their mathematical relegation in midweek.
Souttar bundled the Foxes ahead with a back-post header in the 78th minute, only for promotion-hunting Millwall to equalize in the 90th minute.
The Leicester Mercury rated Souttar 9/10 and wrote: “His first game for 16 months and he was the best player on the pitch.
“The big centre-back defended the box brilliantly, winning countless headers and making a couple of timely blocks, and then attacked Thomas’s cross well to bundle in his first goal for the club. He seems like the sort of player Rowett would have liked to have for all 14 matches.”
Leicester City manager Gary Rowett was full of praise for Souttar post-game when he said: ” Harry Souttar summed it up tonight, he headed everything out of our box and had real desire, along with Jannik [Vestergaard] and the one opportunity he gets in the other box, he attacks it like there is only one person that is going to score.
“We have missed that, and for someone to give us that after being out for 450-odd days is quite incredible.”
