Harry Souttar earned an 8/10 rating for a strong defensive display and clean sheet as Sheffield United won 2-0 at Hull City on Friday night in the English Championship.
The Sheffield Star wrote: “Went all around the world on international duty over the break but shrugged off any jet-lag with two very important bits of defending early on that probably went under the radar, but snuffed out two promising Hull attacks.
“He remained at that level throughout the game, using every ounce of his experience and on the one occasion Hull got between him and Ahmedhodzic, the crossbar came to their rescue from Mehlem’s header.”
Callum Elder got an assist and received a 7.5/10 rating in Derby County’s 1-0 victory over Alex Robertson’s Cardiff City.
Elder started and played 82 minutes, providing the pass for Kenzo Goudmijn’s first-time finish for a 28th-minute goal.
Derbyshire Live wrote: “Has been excellent since the season started and has rapidly grown in confidence. Plays with energy and defended well against El-Ghazi. Grabbed an assist too.” Robertson was a 69th minute sub for the Bluebirds.
On the injury front, Riley McGree was back in the Middlesbrough matchday squad for the first time since August 10 due to injury but was unused in their 1-1 draw with Preston North End.
Jordan Bos also returned for Westerlo in Belgium’s top flight, coming on in the 69th minute substitute for his first game since July due to injury as they drew 2-2 with Anderlecht.
In the Dutch Eredivisie, Max Balard put in a full shift in NAC Breda’s 1-0 home win over Fortuna Sittard which moved them into midtable.
In the English Premier League, Massimo Luongo was an 84th minute substitute as Ipswich Town claimed a 0-0 draw at Brighton. Cam Burgess was not in the Town squad.
In the German Bundesliga, Connor Metcalfe missed St Pauli’s 3-1 loss at Augsburg due to injury while Jackson Irvine put in a full shift. St Pauli remain without a point after three games.
In the French Ligue 1, Denis Genreau was an unused substitute for Toulouse in their 2-0 win over Le Havre.
Martin Boyle scored his second league goal this season and fifth in all competitions this campaign as Hibernian secured a much-needed 2-0 victory over St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.
Boyle entered the fray in the 62nd minute and scored 10 minutes later to seal the triumph, lifting Hibs up to eighth after a winless start to the season.
BBC Scotland wrote: “Boyle added energy and pace, which was so effective for the second goal as he burst in behind before producing a composed finish.”
The Socceroo scored with a beautiful dink after being released by Chris Cadden. Nectar Triantis put in a full shift while Lewis Miller was an 83rd minute sub.
Kye Rowles was rated 6/10 for his full game in Hearts’ 2-0 loss to Celtic. Edinburgh Evening News wrote: “A couple of slack pieces of distribution. Those apart, fairly solid.”
Cammy Devlin was a 72nd minute substitute for the Jambos, earning a 5/10 for his cameo: “Charged up and down the pitch trying to support his team-mates.”
Josh Nisbet started and played 79 minutes as Ross County recorded a 2-0 home win over Dundee.
